My Birthday Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea set with desserts on a table

I recently celebrated my birthday and I just had to share my birthday afternoon tea tablescape with you! Sometimes I feel a bit stressed when planning an extra special afternoon tea–especially when when I’m celebrating an occasion like a birthday. There can be added pressure to make things perfect.

I’m another year older and another year wiser because this birthday afternoon tea party felt elegant yet non fussy. Rather than making a cake from scratch, this year I used a gluten free cake mix which cut down on my prep time significantly. To make this more tea party-esque, I cut the cake into small tea party sized pieces (you can save the scraps for cake pops).

This was a simple tea party–just came but I felt like variety was a must so I used different flavored frostings and for an elevated look and taste, I added some very special toppings. For the frosting, I used Strawberry, Vanilla Marshmallow and Dark Chocolate. For the toppings, I used edible dried roses, sprinkles and. I thought it would be fun to add the toppings to each cake.

For china, I used my beloved Wedgwood tea ware in Butterfly Bloom. I’ve had the 3 tier cake stand for many years–it used to be my mom’s and she purchased at K-Mart over 20 years ago! I love its delicate light pink color. It compliments many of my other teawares and thought it’s not an expensive piece, it’s VERY special to me.

I’ll have to do a follow up post and an eventual video on this set up as the photos don’t do it justice!
