My Dairy Free Hot Chocolate Recipe

Dairy free hot chocolate with marshmallows in cup and saucer.

Recently I have created a little ritual that brings me so much joy. I take my bath, moisturize and do skincare then I go out into the kitchen and make a cup of hot chocolate–pure bliss. It’s become a little luxury that I’ve incorporated into my day–I bring the hot chocolate back to my vanity and enjoy it while I do my makeup.

One of the reasons why I think I’ve put this little ritual on a pedestal is because it’s been very hard to find a hot chocolate powder mix that I can enjoy as I’m dairy-free. The few dairy-free varieties that I have come across are too expensive and don’t taste that good.

So it’s been back to basics for me whisking away on my stove top. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dairy Free Hot Chocolate, serves one

  • 3/4 tbsp Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder
  • 8 oz. Dairy Free Milk of Choice ( I use Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk)
  • 1 tsp Turbinado Sugar
  • Dash of Vanilla Powder ( or vanilla extract)
  • Mini Marshmallows, optional (I use mini dehydrated marshmallows)

Add milk, sugar, cocoa powder and vanilla to pot on low/ medium heat. Whisk until combined then stir every few minutes while the hot chocolate slowly heats up. Add mini marshmallows and enjoy!

*NOTES*

If you find dark hot chocolate powder to be too strong, try regular cocoa powder. Also, if it’s not sweet enough to your liking add another 1/2 tsp of sugar at a time until it’s to your liking–we can add flavor in but we can’t take it away–so try a little at a time!
